Pop! with KDE - is it worth it? Pop! with KDE - is it worth it?

So aside from the whole Xfinity streaming issue, I could really see switching to Linux full-time. I like Pop, but I also like KDE. For whatever reason, KDE just feels more familiar than Gnome. I have absolutely no business being any kind of interface zealot, I just like what I like.

Is there a downside to running KDE with Pop?

/ currently running Universal Blue Aurora, and I rather like it.

Edit - I am also not at all comfortable with Fedora, I have a much better understanding of Debian/Ubuntu, which is what attracted me to Pop in the first place.

BTW - thank you all for not being gatekeepers like the r/linux crowd.

UPDATE

Pop! is on the Surface, interface feels a little heavy on older hardware, had to install a custom Surface kernal to get some features operable. Overall, things look good. May have an Xfinity work-around as well.

Help: Can’t boot into recovery mode after editing target root drive using Gnome Disks Help: Can’t boot into recovery mode after editing target root drive using Gnome Disks

Hey Folks,

I’ve been trying to migrate my installation of Pop!_OS from the 1TB drive that came with my machine, to the 4TB drive.

I’ve been able to successfully clone my four partitions. I’ve changed the UUID’s on the target drives so I can test if they can boot without having conflicts in /etc/fstab.

I was able to edit my /etc/fstab to point towards the new EFI partition and Recovery partition in the 4TB drive on startup but not to the new cloned drive.

For some reason when I was editing my fstab in the 1TB, and then the 4TB drives—it would always make the Filesystem Root (/) drive from the 1TB the default drive on startup. Even if I edited /etc/fstab.

I noticed GUI Gnome Disks tool showed that I was booted into the right EFI and Recovery partitions on the 4TB drive, but my Filesystem Root was still pointed towards partition the 1TB. It also didn’t match with what I found in the /etc/fstab which was incredibly confusing.

The last thing I remember was that I changed the options target partition in the 4TB drive to the ones I found in the partition in the 1TB drive using the GUI Gnome Disks tool. I now can’t boot into any of my drives. I’m been able to flash a thumb drive with Pop!OS so I can try and undo this mistake.

Unfortunately I can’t boot into the recovery partition either.

Edit: I was able to edit my etc/fstab in the partition my 1TB drive so I’m able to boot successfully again. I’m at a loss once again on how I can safely edit the etc/fstab on my 4TB drive and boot into my 4TB drive. Even when I select the 4TB drive, it mounts the 1TB drive as Filesystem Root.

Any Capture Card recommendations? Any Capture Card recommendations?

Hey everybody,

I just purchased this capture card https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036VO2BI?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details to break ground on a project involving digitizing some VHSes, but for the life of me I can't get this device to show up in v4l2-ctl --list-devices or be seen by OBS, despite it showing up in lsusb... Anyways I don't have the time to troubleshoot this much further-- anybody have some good capture card recommendations that are plug and play? I ain't worried about it having a composite interface-- I have a composite to HDMI adapter anyways. Thanks.

Suddenly I find myself in emergency mode with Windows Dual Boot Suddenly I find myself in emergency mode with Windows Dual Boot

I was using Pop_OS a bit with nvidia, but suddenly my workstation is in emergency mode during bot mode and the number pad doesn't work during boot, and some kernel errors and when I tried to fix it with a live USB it kept saying "Pty device empty: no such device", and when I tried to use apt update mention few critical errors.

I don't know if it's the Windows 11 dual boot, but it's not the first time that I've had an error with windows and Pop_OS, I think I'm going to have to put windows on a virtual machine.

Has anyone been able to fix this? Here are few errors from the journalctl

Screen reader randomly turns on? Hilariously annoying problem Screen reader randomly turns on? Hilariously annoying problem
Help

I've been using Pop OS for about a week now and while I mostly love it, there's one persistent and weird problem: the screen reader will just randomly activate, about once or twice a day. I have no idea what's causing it - the first time it happened I wasn't even in the room, my computer was just sitting idle and then out of nowhere started reading all the contents of the screen out loud, startling my wife. 😅 If I go to accessibility settings it says screen reader is off - if I toggle it on and then back off again, it will then stop, at least until the next time it suddenly turns on again.

Anybody experience this before? Any way I can safely just delete Orca off my system? I won't ever need it personally. If I try and do sudo apt remove orca it gives me an error that pop-desktop depends on it.

I'm running on a custom-built desktop, AMD CPU + Nvidia GPU, I can give more specs if it seems relevant.

NVidia Surround on Pop OS?? NVidia Surround on Pop OS??

Hi there,

I'm currently running Win 11 and use NVidia Surround on three 1080p 144hz G-Sync monitors and it works great. I play games in resolution of 5760x1080 and its super smooth and immersive.

Can I use NVidia surround in POP OS?

I was using Ubuntu 24.04 a few months ago and, for the life of me, I could not get NVidia surround to work on it.

This is the only sticking point preventing me from switching over.

P.S. - I'm sick and tired of Windows. -_-

Laptop gaming performance dropped suddenly drastically Laptop gaming performance dropped suddenly drastically
Help

Hello everyone! I recently bought an HP Victus 15 laptop with a RTX 4060 graphics card, 16GB of ram and an intel i7 CPU, I deleted windows, installed pop OS and it worked magnificently for a few months, the problem now is that Ryujinx (A nintendo switch emulator that worked fine on many games) loaded the newest princess peach game but it was broken and I restarted the laptop but all the gaming performance drastically dropped, Unigine benchmark shows that on the 1080 high preset the average framerate dropped from 90FPS to 60, and Minecraft dropped from max 180 to a solid 100, no big processes were there, the system is fully upgraded, the allocation is the same and I even tried to refresh the system, what can I do?

Note: I'm playing Minecraft with shaders
